Railings are structural safety components that happen to be decorative — and in Fujairah they also have to survive coastal air. Al Taher fabricates stair railings, balustrades and handrails in stainless steel, glass, aluminium and wrought iron from our Al Hail workshop, templated to your actual staircase rather than to a drawing. Which railing material suits your staircase?
| Material | Best for | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Stainless steel | Modern interiors, coastal balconies | Corrosion-resistant, slim posts, low maintenance |
| Glass with steel fittings | Open-plan villas, sea views | Toughened or laminated; maximises light and view |
| Aluminium | Balconies, terraces, budget-conscious | Light, powder-coated in any RAL colour, rust-free |
| Wrought iron | Classical and ornate villas | Fully custom patterns; needs a quality coating outdoors |
| Marble with metal balustrade | Feature staircases | Stone treads templated to the metal structure |
Why does templating on site matter?
Staircases are almost never as built as they were drawn. Rises vary by a few millimetres, landings are rarely perfectly square, and a railing fabricated to the drawing rather than the staircase ends up with uneven gaps or posts that miss their fixings. We template the actual stair after the treads are in, fabricate to those measurements, and install with the fixings the structure will actually take.
Indoors or outdoors — what changes?
Indoor railings are chosen mainly for looks and feel. Outdoor ones on balconies and terraces face salt air, so the specification shifts: stainless steel or properly powder-coated aluminium, corrosion-resistant fittings, and toughened glass where glass is used. It is almost always the fittings, not the material, that fail first on a coastal balcony.
What does a railing cost, and how long does it take?
Cost follows material, length, complexity and finish more than anything else — our stair railing cost guide breaks that down by material. Typical fabrication and installation is 1–2 weeks from approval. As with all our work, the committed date is written into the quotation.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a handrail and a balustrade?
The balustrade is the whole barrier — posts, infill and rail. The handrail is the part you actually grip. In practice most villa projects need both designed together so the grip height and the infill spacing work as one system.
Are glass balustrades safe for stairs?
Yes, when specified correctly. Balustrade glass is toughened or toughened-laminated — never ordinary annealed glass — and fixed in structural channels, clamps or standoff pins rated for the load. We specify the glass and the fixings together, because the fittings carry the safety function.
Can you match a railing to an existing gate or staircase?
Yes. Matching a new railing to an existing gate pattern or an existing balustrade elsewhere in the villa is routine — the same profiles and powder-coat colour run through both.
Do stainless steel railings rust in Fujairah?
Quality stainless resists coastal corrosion well, which is why we recommend it for exposed balconies. Surface tea-staining can appear on any stainless near the sea and cleans off; structural corrosion is the failure that matters and correct grade selection prevents it.
How long does a stair railing take?
Typically 1–2 weeks from design approval to installation. Site templating happens first, so the fabrication is to your actual staircase rather than to a drawing.
